Spanish startup Modular DS has secured €615,000 in seed funding to enhance its centralized platform for managing WordPress websites and accelerate its international expansion.
The funding round included participation from prominent Spanish tech entrepreneurs and investors such as Juan Pablo Tejela, CEO of Metricool; Juan Carlos Celaya, CEO of Factoría Digital; and angel investor Mathieu Carenzo, known for backing Glovo and Signaturit. Venture capital firm Draper B1 also joined the round, alongside public financing institutions ENISA and Sodical, which provided participatory loans.
Modular DS offers a SaaS platform designed to streamline routine WordPress maintenance tasks for agencies and freelancers. These include backups, plugin updates, uptime monitoring, and client reporting. With WordPress powering approximately 43% of all websites globally, the platform aims to tap into a massive yet fragmented ecosystem, particularly in the realm of professional-grade maintenance and automation tools.
Positioning itself as a user-friendly, bilingual (English and Spanish) alternative to larger players like ManageWP and MainWP, Modular DS emphasizes a clean interface, scalable features, and responsive customer support. The startup recently launched version 2.0 of its platform and plans to use the new capital to grow its team and strengthen its position in the English-speaking market.
“Website maintenance has evolved beyond a technical necessity; it’s now a strategic pillar for WordPress professionals aiming to build sustainable businesses,” said Héctor de Prada, co-founder of Modular DS. “We believe Modular DS can lead in this space, and this investment will enable us to continue pursuing that mission.”
De Prada acknowledged the historical difficulty of attracting traditional investment for WordPress-centric products but remains confident. “The WordPress ecosystem is incredibly diverse and ever-evolving. Many professionals are actively seeking high-quality tools to optimize their workflows. This funding round reflects confidence in that vision.”
As demand grows for automation, security, and managed services, the industry is shifting away from one-off development projects to continuous website maintenance—an area gaining increased traction among professionals.
