On International Blogger Day, Ukrainian influencer Anastasia Unguryan shared a series of practical insights aimed at helping new and aspiring bloggers improve their content, stay consistent, and overcome self-doubt. Speaking to UNN, she also addressed the early-stage challenges many creators face in a rapidly growing digital space.
International Blogger Day, celebrated on June 14, was launched in 2004 as an informal global occasion. It honors blogging as a powerful tool for personal expression and cross-cultural communication, bringing together writers and creators from all backgrounds.
How to Begin: Strategy First
According to Unguryan, a clear concept is essential for any successful blog. She advises beginners to define the core of their content — what they’re about, who they’re speaking to, and how their story differs from others. A structured concept helps build identity and attract a loyal audience.
She also recommends competitive research and a full content relaunch. Her proposed starting framework includes 12 to 18 expert videos, 4 to 8 professional posts or video pieces, and at least two weeks of consistent daily story updates. This content surge, she explains, helps build momentum and visibility early on.
Consistency Is Key
Unguryan stressed that regular content creation is fundamental. Many bloggers fail to grow because they lack a consistent schedule. She pointed out that sporadic posting leads to declining audience engagement and ultimately weakens a blog’s impact.
She encouraged creators to plan their week in advance. “Treat blogging like a job,” she said. “Write out your weekly content calendar, just like preparing a project. Your readers will start to expect and appreciate the rhythm of your posts.”
Keep a Creative Vault
One practical tip she offered was to maintain a “creative vault” — a place to store content ideas for future use. Unguryan uses platforms like Telegram to collect concepts, potential storylines, or thoughts that come to mind during the day.
She says this system is especially helpful during creative slumps. “Whenever you run out of ideas or don’t feel inspired, you can open your vault and find something valuable to work on. It saves time and keeps your content flowing.”
Watch Videos with a Critical Eye
Unguryan suggests dedicating 20–30 minutes daily to watching videos — not just for entertainment, but as a study tool. Bloggers should observe trends, analyze what’s working, and note the styles that draw attention.
She emphasized the difference between inspiration and imitation. “It’s okay to be inspired by what others are doing, but you must never copy them. Your unique voice is your brand. Stay true to it.”
Strategic Story Pauses
Noting the changing dynamics of social media, Unguryan said that constantly posting stories may no longer be the most effective strategy. Instead, letting old stories expire before posting new ones can actually enhance audience reach.
She explained that this pause creates anticipation. “When your previous content disappears completely, the next update stands out more. The algorithm also tends to reward that fresh engagement.”
Capture Moments from a New Angle
Unguryan encourages bloggers to develop a habit of filming themselves from a side angle for 10–15 seconds. These clips can serve as raw material for future stories and posts. “A tripod and a remote button are small investments that make a big difference,” she added.
She explained that these short side-view recordings provide flexibility when you don’t have new material. Whether it’s drinking coffee or walking outside, capturing everyday moments helps maintain a steady stream of content.
Hashtags Are Outdated — Use Keywords
Hashtags, once a central part of blog discovery, are no longer effective, according to Unguryan. Instead, she recommends focusing on relevant keywords in your blog description.
She uses terms like “personal branding” and “marketing” in her profile to clarify her niche and improve visibility. This keyword-based approach aligns more closely with modern search algorithms and content platforms.
Use Attention-Grabbing Titles
Another important tactic is crafting “trigger headlines” — titles that clearly communicate the value of your content and invite viewers to engage. Unguryan emphasized their role in video storytelling.
“A headline like ‘Three Reasons Your Diet Isn’t Working’ gives the viewer a reason to stop and listen,” she said. “Without it, even a great message might get overlooked.”
Blog Concept and Audience Must Be Clear
No content strategy will work if your blog lacks a defined concept and audience. Unguryan emphasized that packaging matters just as much as creativity.
“If your blog has no direction, everything else you do will fall flat,” she warned. A clear identity not only helps attract followers, it ensures your content aligns with their expectations.
Common Fears That Hold Bloggers Back
Unguryan addressed three major fears that often prevent people from starting a blog. The first is oversaturation — the idea that there are already too many bloggers. She disagrees: “There’s always space for originality. You don’t need to be the best — you need to be different.”
To overcome this fear, she suggests reflecting on what sets your story apart: “What makes your journey unique? What perspective can only you offer? That’s your niche.”
Success Doesn’t Require Perfection
The second fear is that without major accomplishments, no one will listen. But Unguryan argues that relatability can be just as powerful as success. “Even if you’re starting from scratch, your vulnerability might inspire someone else.”
She reminded new bloggers that everyone begins somewhere. “Blogging opens doors — to clients, income, community, and even purpose. Don’t let self-doubt stop you.”
Is My Life Interesting Enough?
The third concern she hears often is that a creator’s life isn’t exciting. But she believes storytelling — not luxury — makes content interesting. “Fancy brands and expensive items don’t impress people anymore. Authenticity does,” she said.
She added that even the simplest day-to-day moments can be turned into meaningful stories with the right angle and voice. “Your perspective is what makes the ordinary extraordinary.”
